One of Many Goals

In an effort to get myself reading more (I haven't done a whole lot since leaving school), I decided that I would set myself a reading goal. I had gone to the public library weeks ago and wandered the aisles aimlessly, trying to figure out what I should read next. I also figured the public library would save me money since Ryan and I are bibliophiles and collect like mad (to our credit though, we either get them on sale or use our discount card. My favourite way to find a new book is to go to the clearance shelves and pick one randomly. If the story interests me I get it. Usually they are under $10.00 and often they are under $5.00! However in attempts to really save our money this year, I am going to try and frequent our fantastic (and I do mean fantastic) public library.

So in addition to participating in the Barren Bitches Book Brigade (ie. book club) , I have decided to read all the Giller Prize Winners and for good measure, the Short List too. 14 years of the Giller Prize, 14 winners and 63 Short Lister. Some of the best of Canadian Fiction. I'll start with the winners and see where I get to. This should be fun. Now only if I can actually get a hold of the books. I tried putting a hold on Eliza.beth Ha.y's Late Nig.hts on A.ir (2007 winner that I really wanted to read) and was like 294th on the list. Hmmm, maybe start at 1994 and work my way forward?

I was wondering if you put the dots/full stops there deliberately?

294th on the list? Wow.

My public library sucks... I don't go there very often. And I am also a bibliophile... It's a horrible addiction. I don't even have room for the books I buy.

Enjoy all the reading!

what a great project. i love to read too and was once in a great book club. actually, i am still in the same club, but the quality of our discussions and the books we read has deteriorated.

i'd love to hear recommendations from your adventures in reading.

Ha ha. I put in the periods so that peoole Googling her or her book don't end up here by mistake. It actually works for any sort of random Name or item that might bring people here for the wrong reasons.

I have no issue with random people reading my blog but it would be weird for people to end up here when they were just looking for book info. Does that make any sense? People do the same thing with face.book and the like.

I love our public library system. It's a huge system and has awesome interlibrary loan and great online service. 294th on the list...might as well go and look for it at the used book store, though.

I have a huge reading list - the only problem is that I forget why I wanted the book by the time I get around to requesting it!
